How can inclusive play contribute to restore blue-tongue lizard habitats along the White Bay waterfront therefore create playfulness for both human and nature in urban neighbourhood?
human focus habitat focus coexist
In the future time, development led is trending, but as landsacep designers it is important to balance the human development and nature law to minimise the harmful to the wildlife. Intergrade the other creature within in the open space design will benefit both human and ecology.
As project in Term 1 : White bay structure plan, by 2030 White Bay prcienct will create more than 7000 residents and 22,800 jobs
human inclusivity + creature inclusivity = new form of ecology and open space function
SDG goals 1 : Sustainable city and community
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and halt biodiversity loss Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
By 2030.........
By 2030, take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats , halt the loss of biodiversity and, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species
By 2030.........
By 2030, provide universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible , green and public spaces, in particular for women and children, older persons and persons with disabilities
Objectives and targets
Locally indigenous vegetation
Increase the extent of bush restoration sites across the LGA include Coastal Sandstone Foreshores Forest
connectivity
Protect and enhance sites that provide habitat for priority fauna species include Blue Tongue Lizard
Improve habitat connectivity across the LGA from Jubilee Park to White Bay forshore
Urban Design and Landscape Plan
Rozelle Interchange
White Bay Longview
White bay curise termminal
WBPS open space
Urban design objectives
1. Urban renewal and liveability
a. Providing extensive tree planting of endemic species to achieve tree canopy cover for shade, shelter and habitat.
b. Maintaining vegetated screening by reducing existing vegetation loss and enhancing existing vegetation screening by utilising similar plant species where possible
2. Memorable identity and a safe, enjoyable experience
a.Utilising crime prevention through environmental design ( CPTED ) principles to provide safer spaces

Habitat
Sydney context map
Located west of Pyrmont in the inner west Sydney council area surrounded by Balmain, Rozelle and Glebe Island, adjacent to the Anzac bridge. It is one of the working ports in the Sydney harbour, it is still an inaccessible foreshore but has huge heritage value and nature assets.
Focus area in 2020
From 2020, the WBPS area and waterfront will open to public, remediate the soil around the WBPS also reintroduce the lizard habitat then provides different opportunities along the waterfront such as basketball etc.
Focus area in 2050
1840
The Glebe Island on the picture can be accessed at low tide on the Balmain coastline.
1855
A low-level timber-framed bridge was built to connect Glebe Island and Pyrmont.
1890
A dike extends from Balmain to Glebe Island, reclaiming land in the bay.
Through reclamation, opportunities are created for the redevelopment of housing, industry, commercial and entertainment. But on the other hand, the reclamation also makes the soil become highly polluted.
The existing topography showed the most area is flat but huge level change behind the WBPS and cruise terminal. The flat surface is a great area for sports and other events, the sandstone is a natural habitat for the blue tongue lizard .
Banksia integrifolia
Casuarina equisetifolia
Casuarina cunninghamiana
On the site, the exiting vegetation area is quite small, which create a huge gap in flora and fauna connective. Therefore, enhance the connective by bush restoration and design for habitat for lizard, improve the urban ecology.
Opportunity
Create both land and water access by demolish the fence on the site also rebuild water edge to engage people come the water.
Constraint
The high polluted soil condition will need to be consider and solve to be able to provide a healthy environment for both human activity and habitat restoration
Opportunity
Increase and enhance the harbour view from WBPS by avoid plating high shrub next to the waterfront
Opportunity
Introduce different forms of recreation both active and passive for different age group around WBPS such as basketball court, waterplay, sitting area etc.
Opportunity
Provide a safe and enjoyable experience on the site by integrate the CPTED in to the design for the open space
Opportunity
Introduce the bush restoration process to create habitat for blue tongue lizard therefore increase canopy cover also improve the habitat connectivity around the LGA site
Constraint
Due to protect the blue tongue lizard habitat human activities will need to be controlled or limited therefore create a balanced situation between human and creature

Context Remediate the flat area in front of WBPS using plants, whilst introduce the blue basketball court up near the white bay terminal. The court will also open at night, under lights. Ships can still pull in and by day, the area can still be used for terminal passengers ...........
Improve the soil quality by phytoremediation using multiple phases also increase the canopy cover over the time
Activate the space next to the cruise terminal by moving the fence and design basketball court
Introduce different play function and integrate with the basketball court therefore create a more pleasant and welcoming space
Phase 1 :Use local plants to do the phytoremediation next to the power station
Phase 1: Demolish the fence improve site accessibility and preparation for future basketball court
Phase 2 : Inspired by Dr Sue Anne Ware power plants phytoremediation to design a tested garden
Phase 2 : Basketball court and related infrastructure has been built and ready for the first White Bay Basketball competition
Phase 3 : Introduce the bush restoration program to the site and increase canopy cover
phase 3 : Improve the site experience by design more play element for kids and design a more comprehensive open space
Phase 1 :Use local plants to do the phytoremediation next to the power station
Phase 2 : Inspired by Dr Sue Anne Ware power plants phytoremediation to design a tested garden
Phase 3 : Introduce the bush restoration program to the site and increase canopy cover

Context Now the power station flat forecourt area has been remediated, the first neighbourhood block built near the cruise terminal, then move the blue basketball courts to WBPS. Reintroduce the blue tongue lizards to the cliff area on the south of power station. By day, blue tongue lizards can lay out 10am-4pm on the stage at the same time human activities are occurring around them...........
Reintroduce the blue tongue lizard habitat by using concrete block and dense vegetation to create shelter and retain the sandstone stage for sun bask
Reactivate the power station forecourt and provide opportunities for different activities such as basketball and tumpline etc
Protect the lizard habitat by limit the human activities in particular area by fences

The vegetation has been arranged based on their height which from low to high from the sandstone stage. The purpose is to avoid blocking the sun to the stage that create a long-lasting sun bask for the lizard
In the long-time consideration, the highest canopy will not block the sun the dense shrub will create shelter for the lizard

Context
White Bay metro station has been built up and new neighbourhood block extend to the power station and become a commercial centre.... Pedestrian access from Victoria streets is available, set of steps that encourages blue tongue Lizard habitat also become basketball viewing seating . The power station forecourt and surrounded area is making a great long term public space with new form of urban ecology which become inclusivity for both human and creature.......
Provide a high-quality open space network for different age group and create playfulness for everyone
Improve the lizard habitat quality using different zone area for different purpose which based on the lizard life cycle
Create a cyborg ecology form that intergrade the creature within in the open space design to benefit both human and nature
