Dr. Janet Chollet: Physician and Innovator

Dr. Janet A. Chollet is Boston's board-certified obstetrician–gynecologist, biotech co-founder, and translational medicine leader. She is the Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Procyrn LLC, where she leads the development of sustained-release hydrogel immune therapeutics and reformulated antivirals. Her work focuses on maternal–fetal health, neuroinflammation, and HPV-related cervical disease, bringing together patient care, research, and biotechnology.

Education and Medical Training

Dr. Chollet earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1986. Motivated by her interest in science as a pathway to health, she pursued her Doctor of Medicine degree at New York Medical College, graduating in 1991. From 1991 to 1995, she completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at LAC/USC Women’s Hospital. These formative years inspired her commitment to advancing therapies for women and families.

Clinical and Academic Career

After her residency, she joined Magee-Women’s Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, as a staff physician and instructor. From 2000 to 2007, she balanced patient care with academic teaching and mentorship, developing her vision

of translational medicine as a bridge between clinical insights and therapeutic development. In 2007, she joined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where she continues to practice as an obstetrician–gynecologist while contributing to academic training.

Pear Tree Pharmaceuticals and Patents

In 2005, Dr. Janet Chollet co-founded Pear Tree Pharmaceuticals, dedicated to site-targeted therapies for women’s health. Serving as Vice President of Clinical Affairs until 2018, she worked on vaginal delivery technologies that reduced systemic exposure while addressing localized conditions. Her contributions resulted in three U.S. patents:

US 9,693,953 — Method of treating atrophic vaginitis

US 9,675,546 — Method of treating atrophic vaginitis with triphenylethylene derivatives

US 9,480,662 — Compositions and methods for topical tamoxifen citrate therapy

This intellectual property later played a key role in Pear Tree’s merger with Dare Bioscience (NASDAQ: DARE).

Founding Procyrn LLC

In 2023, Janet Chollet co-founded Procyrn LLC, a biotechnology company advancing sustained-release biologics and reformulated antivirals. As Chief Medical Officer, she directs clinical development and translational strategy. Procyrn’s programs include:

Maternal–Fetal Health (PC101): Focused on preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, conditions that often require preterm delivery. PC101 is designed to stabilize maternal–fetal health, prolong gestation, and reduce early delivery. Preclinical validation has been completed with Northeastern University and Charles River Laboratories.

Neuroinflammation and ALS: In collaboration with Jackson Laboratory, she is developing immune-modulating therapies for C9orf72-associated amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

HPV-Driven Cervical Dysplasia: Partnering with Charles River Laboratories, she is advancing a localized antiviral delivery platform for nonsurgical treatment of cervical disease.

She is also exploring Autism Prevention Through Maternal–Fetal Immune Therapeutics, an early-stage concept that investigates how stabilizing the intrauterine environment may reduce neurodevelopmental risks.

Leadership and Strategy

Janet Chollet, MD, has expertise in regulatory planning and program execution. She emphasizes reproducibility in preclinical studies, using early go/no-go criteria, and aligning program milestones with funding strategies. Her leadership reflects a disciplined and thoughtful approach to advancing therapies from discovery to clinical care.

Creative Work and Personal Interests

Earlier in her career, Dr. Chollet co-wrote the Emmy-winning ER episode “Love’s Labor Lost,” which won five awards. Although Warner Bros. offered her a staff writing role, she chose to continue her medical career, demonstrating her dedication to healthcare while showcasing her creative perspective.

Beyond her professional commitments, she values balance through family, exercise, and creativity. She enjoys strength training, golf, and the companionship of pets, while also pursuing travel and writing. Recently, she has become interested in the role of artificial intelligence in clinical workflows and translational medicine, exploring its potential to accelerate progress.

Dr. Janet Chollet has built a career that combines medicine, innovation, and leadership. Through her work in clinical practice, biotechnology, patents, and translational research, she continues to contribute to maternal–fetal health, women’s care, and beyond.
