Our sound vases begin their creative journey at the Alcobaça Monastery, established in 1153 by Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. The monastery also developed a close association with the Portuguese monarchy throughout its seven-centurylong history.

The process begins with the recording of a trained singer in the saced and spacious Alcobaça Monastery (pronounced al-ku-ba-sa).

A computer program then maps the coordinates for the base of the design, utilizing the sound of the voice to form the shape and build the body of the vessel.

Once completed, the digital design is 3-D printed into a mold that’s used to create slipmolded ceramic vases.
EYou’ll notice that the vessels are only available in a white finish consistent with the monastery’s Cistercian aesthetic, which prohibits all colored and patterned stained glass. Only colorless stained glass is utilized, such that clean, pure, and white light passes into the space generating tranquility and calmness.
