TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Submission of an application means that applicants agree to these terms and conditions.
Receiving funding is dependent on fulfilling all requirements set out in these terms and conditions and a grant agreement, which will be provided to successful applicants.
1. ABOUT THE FUNDING ORGANISATION
The Nature Hubs Fund is being delivered by environmental charity Hubbub.

The fund is being supported by the Starbucks® 5p cup charge which is applied when a customer chooses to use a single-use cup.
2. DATES
Application timeline:
Groups can apply from 9am Monday 14th October, 2024
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 29th November, 2024. Any application submitted after this window won’t be considered.
Hubbub will inform you whether or not you’ve been successful by the end of February 2025.
Funding: March 2025 [subject to receiving all documentation]
3. WHO CAN APPLY
3.1 The Nature Hubs Fund will support constituted community groups and UK registered organisations increase access to nature in their communities
We can support a range of organisation types to make this happen. These include:
Organisations that are:
• Based in the UK with a project location in England, Scotland, or Wales.*
• Within 5 km of a Starbucks store **
• Organisations must be a constituted community group or a registered charity, CIC, or company. Organisations may provide a Registered Company/CIC/Charity Number where applicable.
*Unfortunately, The Nature Hubs Fund is not currently operating in Northern Ireland, but we hope to expand in the future.
**Starbucks wants to increase access to green space in the communities its stores are in. All applicants must be within a 5km radius of a Starbucks store, and it is desirable that projects are based within a 3km radius. Please measure this using Google Maps – we will ask for your organisation’s post code in your application.
Nature Hubs projects will automatically join Hubbub’s Community Nature Network’s map of projects.
The grant is not open to the following:
• Community groups that are not constituted and do not have a constitution/articles of association and bank account in the organisation’s name. You can find more information on group types here.
• Schools.
• Party political organisations.
• Local authorities/councils.
• Sole traders or individuals.
• Projects in Northern Ireland
• Project locations that are not within 5km of a Starbucks store.
3.2 As part of the application process applicants will be asked to provide:
Their organisation’s constitution or articles of association and a recent bank statement of the organisation from within the last three months. This can be a scanned paper statement or a digital statement. We need to see the bank’s name, your organisation’s name, the address where statements go, the account number and the sort code.
Names, details and signatures of any trustees, directors or committee members along with those responsible for your organisations finance.
Where relevant, a company registration number, and/or charity registration number.
Audited accounts for the last financial year (or latest management accounts). Applicants should be seeking funds to support a specific and discrete initiative rather than core operational costs.
The maximum grant value for new grants is up to £6,000 and the minimum grant value is £3,000 The maximum grant value for top up grants is £3,000. Hubbub reserves the right to offer grants of a lower or higher value depending on the merit of the applications and funds available.
Applications from a collaboration of organisations are welcomed. The lead organisation must be one of the types of organisations listed above as eligible.
4. APPLICATION
4.1 Applicants must demonstrate that their initiative will create or enhance access to green space and must meet the application criteria as outlined in the application guidance
4.2 Organisations may apply for more than one grant so long as the project locations are distinct and near to separate Starbucks stores. Organisations with existing Nature Hubs that are applying for a top-up grant may also apply for a new grant in a separate location that is within 5km of a different Starbucks store
4.3 Applications must be completed in English.
4.4 An application may be rejected at the sole discretion of Hubbub.
4.5 Applicants must not infringe the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.
4.6 Applicants agree to use of their application by Hubbub and Starbucks as authorised by these terms and conditions, to assess impact, share learning, publicise the funding or increase the impact of the fund. Applicants agree that such use does not infringe upon, misappropriate or otherwise violate any intellectual property right or proprietary right including, without limitation, any registered or unregistered trademark, copyright, design rights or patent, nor any privacy rights, moral rights nor any other rights of any person or entity.
4.7 For the avoidance of doubt, Hubbub and Starbucks shall not be liable for any third-party claims for infringement of third-party intellectual property rights subsisting within the applicant's idea submitted within the application.
4.8 Applicants agree that Hubbub and Starbucks are not precluded from creating, developing or scaling initiatives that are similar to their initiative. They agree that we cannot guarantee that something similar is not currently being created or developed by Hubbub or Starbucks and we cannot guarantee that something similar will not be created in the future. Should we wish to collaborate with you on your idea in the future, we will notify you of this and such collaboration will be subject to a further agreement.
5. THE APPLICATION SELECTION PROCESS
From applications received, Hubbub staff will shortlist applicants. A shortlist of applications will be assessed by a grant selection panel. The grant selection panel will assess the quality of all applications using predefined criteria and choose the successful applicants.
5.1 The grant selection panel will be made up of representatives of Hubbub and Starbucks and may include experts outside of either organisation.
5.2 Following the grant selection panel meeting to assess a shortlist of full applications, Hubbub will offer successful applicants a grant. Hubbub reserves the right to offer grants of a
lower or higher value than the up to £6,000 for new grants or up to £3,000 for top up grants advertised, depending on the merit of the applications and funds available.
5.3 If successful applicants wish to accept Hubbub’s offer of grant funding, they will be asked to review and agree to an offer letter with further terms and conditions to access the grant funding offered.
5.4 Applicants will be considered ineligible to receive funding if they refuse to provide any further information requested by Hubbub.
5.6 Hubbub reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any applicant. This includes if they find the applicant to be acting in violation of these terms and conditions, or to be acting in a manner that is in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
6. GRANT PAYMENT AND REPAYMENT
Funding timeline: All payments to be sent out to groups in March 2025 [subject to receiving all documentation]
6.1 Applicants must be able to provide certified bank details for their registered organisation.
6.2 Funding must support a specific and discrete project, be additional to existing expenditure plans and not cover core operational costs.
6.3 Hubbub expects the funding awarded to successful applicants to be used within one year of funding being granted.
6.4 Successful grant recipients will be required to report back to Hubbub on the outcome and impact of their project through a short form at 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after project initiation, along with photos and short quotes at 6 months and 12 months. Details of the timings and requirements for the reporting will be provided to grant recipients as part of the Offer Letter.
6.5 The grant money must only be spent in accordance with the guidelines set out in the offer terms and conditions.
6.6 Successful applicants will be required to openly share learning, impact and stories from their funded activities.
6.7 You must repay to Hubbub immediately any grant that we have paid to you (and we will stop any future instalments of the grant) if:
• you no longer operate, or you are declared bankrupt or placed into administration, receivership or liquidation;
• you have, in our opinion, given us fraudulent, incorrect or misleading information;
• you have acted negligently in any significant matter or fraudulently in connection with the initiative we have provided the grant for;
• any competent authority directs the repayment of the grant;
• there is a significant change in your status;
• you knowingly withhold information that is relevant to the content of your application;
• you do or fail to do anything that brings Hubbub or Starbucks into disrepute, or which we consider for any reason puts the grant funding at risk;
• you fail to make good progress with the initiative or are unlikely in our view to complete the initiative or achieve the outcomes agreed with us; or:
• you fail to keep to any of the terms set out in these terms and conditions, grant offer letter and associated terms and conditions.
7. VERIFICATION OF APPLICANTS
All applicants will be subject to due diligence at full application stage, including Hubbub’s review of their audited accounts and proof of status, such as constituted group status, charity registration number, company or CIC registration number and/or constitution/articles of association
8. GENERAL CONDITIONS
8.1 The applicant acknowledges and agrees that in making an application, this does not establish any partnership or joint venture between them and Hubbub or Starbucks.
8.2 By submitting an application, each applicant (including all partners and participating members of an organisation) agree(s) to:
• comply with these terms and conditions and the decisions of Hubbub, which are binding and final in all matters relating to this grant fund; and
• indemnify, defend and hold harmless Hubbub and Starbucks from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liabilities (including legal fees) resulting from any breach of these terms and conditions by the applicant.
9. LIABILITY
9.1 Hubbub and Starbucks accept no liability for any consequences, whether direct or indirect, that may come about from grant recipient’s use of the grant or from withdrawal of the grant. Grant recipients shall indemnify and hold harmless Hubbub and Starbucks, including employees, agents, or sub-contractors with respect to all claims, demands, actions, costs, expenses, losses, damages and all other liabilities arising from or incurred by any action or omission the grant recipient makes.
9.2 Hubbub and Starbucks will have no liability in connection with:
• any incorrect or inaccurate information;
• technical failures of any kind including, but not limited to, malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines, internet connectivity or electronic transmission errors, or network hardware or software or failure of the fund website;
• unauthorised human intervention in any part of the application process or the Fund; and
• technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the fund or the processing of applications.
9.3. If for any reason an application is accidentally deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, an applicant’s only remedy is to request from Hubbub the opportunity to resubmit. This request will be decided at the sole discretion of Hubbub if the application period is still open. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit any party’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, for fraudulent misrepresentation and/or for any other loss or damage the exclusion or limitation of which is prohibited by UK law and where applicable English and Welsh law, Northern Irish law and Scottish law.
10. FURTHER TERMS & CONDITIONS
10.1 Hubbub reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the fund, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failure or any other unanticipated factor or factor beyond Hubbub’s control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the fund.
10.2 Hubbub’s failure to enforce any provision of these terms and conditions does not mean that provision is waived. Hubbub is not responsible for incomplete, late, misdirected, damaged, lost, illegible or incomprehensible applications, or for address or email address changes of the applicant. Proof of submitting an application does not equal proof of receipt by Hubbub.
10.3 In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between any provisions of these terms and conditions and disclosures or other statements contained in any fund materials, including, but not limited to, the expression of interest from, application form, website, advertising (including, but not limited to, television, print, radio or online ads), these terms and conditions have greater authority.
10.4 Hubbub can amend these terms and conditions at any time. In such event, Hubbub will post the amended terms and conditions on the fund website and contact any applicants who have already made an application. Any amendment will become effective at the time Hubbub post the amended terms and conditions.
10.5 Should any provision of these terms and conditions be, or become, illegal or unenforceable, such illegality or unenforceability will leave the remainder of these terms and conditions unaffected and valid. The illegal or unenforceable provision will be replaced by a valid and enforceable provision that comes closest and best reflects Hubbub’s intention in a legal and enforceable manner with respect to the invalid or unenforceable provision.

12. LAW AND JURISDICTION
These terms and conditions (including any associated non-contractual disputes or claims) are governed by UK law and where applicable English and Welsh law, Northern Irish law and Scottish law, and by agreeing to these terms and conditions you accept the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts in relation to any dispute arising under or in connection with these terms and conditions.
