HOW THE SOURCE IS BUILDING A THRIVING COMMUNITY IN THE SOUTH VALLEY
For many from the Central Valley, the story is a familiar one: you leave for a big city in search of opportunities. But for Visalia natives Brian Poth and Nick Vargas, their journey came full circle. After building successful careers in Los Angeles and San Francisco, they returned home with a powerful vision: to create a center that not only provided essential services but also wove a thread of pride and belonging into the very fabric of their hometown.
And the impact is undeniable. Each year, The Source contributes over $150,000 to local businesses and venues, collaborates with organizations like Visit Visalia and the Visalia Chamber of Commerce, and even helps major employers like Kaweah Health and Amazon recruit diverse talent by showcasing the South Valley as a place where inclusivity thrives.
The recognition has followed. From the James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award to being named Nonprofit of the Year by the Tulare Kings Hispanic Chamber, The Source has earned accolades that highlight its vision and leadership. But beyond the awards are the stories, the individual lives saved, families supported, and futures transformed. Those are the true markers of success.
One of the clearest testaments to their impact comes each year at Pride Visalia—a joyful celebration of love, culture, and community. On October 11th, from 11:30am to 5pm at Valley Strong Ballpark, thousands will gather for live music, food, entertainment, and over 80 community booths. Pride isn’t just a celebration; it’s a living symbol of what happens when people come together. The Source is powerful because it’s community-powered. Whether you show up, volunteer, or give, every action builds momentum toward a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and celebrated.
