There’s a certain hum that returns every September—the school buses are rolling, stadium lights flicker on, and gyms across Nebraska echo with volleyball warm-ups. That back-to-school rhythm reminds me why I love this season: it’s a natural reset. As the pace picks up, we get to choose our focus. At Strictly Business, we’re choosing renewed energy, deeper collaboration, and a clear path to finish the year strong—and more profitable.
For many companies, Q4 can feel like a sprint. My encouragement: treat it like a well-coached game plan. Start with the scoreboard—what matters most between now and December 31? Is it lead volume, faster sales cycles, hiring, or donor growth? Once you name it, align your marketing to that outcome. In practice, that means pairing smart print placement with digital follow-through, spotlighting your team and customers in stories that build credibility, and pushing consistent, useful content that makes you the obvious choice.
A few quick plays to consider:
Clarify your message. People are busy; make your offer simple, specific, and easy to act on.
Show your proof. Share wins, testimonials, and case studies. Credibility converts.
Engage the community. Football tailgates, fall festivals, and chamber events are perfect stages to meet new customers.
Support a cause. Our Non-Profit Feature this season highlights organizations doing remarkable work—partner with one and watch your brand goodwill grow.
You’ll see this same spirit in our pages this month: businesses investing in their people, nonprofits solving real problems, and leaders turning momentum into measurable outcomes. If you have a milestone, expansion, new hire, or community initiative, send it our way—we’re here to help you tell the story well and get it in front of the right audience.
“Fall brings back the rhythm—now let’s turn that attention into action, and action into profit.”
Whether you’re cheering under Friday night lights or catching a Saturday Softball tournament, I hope this season recharges you. Let’s make these final months count with clarity, consistency, and collaboration. Here’s to finishing 2025 with heads high and numbers up.
Coordinate your channels. Print, email, social, events—when your message lands in multiple places, results compound.
With gratitude, Paige Zutavern President, Strictly Business Magazine

ALLO Fiber, a leading provider of fiber-optic broadband services, is proud to announce the official launch of its Smart Schools solution in partnership with Lincoln Public Schools (LPS). LPS students can now securely connect their school-issued devices throughout Lincoln and other ALLO communities for an improved learning experience.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to digital equity in Lincoln. By utilizing nearly 100,000 business and residential access points in Lincoln, ALLO and LPS are expanding the classroom boundaries and eliminating broadband barriers that disproportionately affect underserved students.
“Just as roads are critical infrastructure for economic development, Smart Schools is critical infrastructure for the educational development of Lincoln Public Schools’ learners,” said Chief Technology Officer for Lincoln Public Schools, Kirk Langer. “ALLO has deployed thousands of high-speed connection points to advance digital learning opportunities.”
Built on ALLO’s powerful SmartTown Wi-Fi infrastructure powered by Calix (NYSE-CALX), Smart Schools enables 2,000 students in grades 6–12 to automatically connect their school-issued computers to highspeed Wi-Fi from virtually anywhere - whether at school, at a local business, in a community venue or at home. This education-optimized connectivity greatly supports students’ academic success.
“We’re thrilled to work alongside Lincoln Public Schools to enhance learning opportunities,” said ALLO President, Brad Moline. “The Covid-era learning limitations and poor quality hot spot services conceptualized the Smart Schools solution. Tobacco Free Lancaster County (TFLC) brought local tobacco and vaping prevention initiatives to the national stage this summer at the National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH) in Chicago, Illinois. Held August 26 - 28, and organized by the National Network of Public Health Institutes, NCTOH is one of the nation’s largest and longest-running tobacco control gatherings.
As a premier forum for sharing proven strategies and policies to reduce tobacco use, NCTOH brings together experts nationwide to highlight impactful initiatives, like those led by TFLC in Lancaster County.
TFLC delivered two panel presentations at the conference, including one in partnership with Tobacco Free Nebraska. The joint session focused on how paid and earned media, combined with strong community partnerships, have boosted outreach during the annual Tobacco Cessation Week and Great American Smoke Out (GASO) events, expanding cessation messaging to rural, urban, and suburban communities statewide.
In a separate session, TFLC highlighted local success with its “Safer Schools, Cleaner Communities” vape disposal initiative. Launched in Lincoln Public Schools in 2024, the initiative focuses on providing a procedure and disposal containers for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of vape devices, thus helping to reduce environmental waste and improve school safety.
Presentation slides are available at Tobaccofreelancastercounty.org/ NCTOH2025/. Community members can also explore other TFLC projects on the website and learn how to get involved. Funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services/Tobacco Free Nebraska Program as a result of an appropriation by the Nebraska State Legislature.

Annual Notice of Cornhuskers??? And Now Our Cornhuskers??
For most of us in Nebraska, September is the month that marks the beginning of another Husker football, volleyball, soccer, golf or cross-country season. For those of us in the health insurance industry, it is the final month of preparation before enrollment season begins. For everyone with Medicare it’s time to look for the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letters!
When the ANOC letters arrive this month, OPEN YOUR LETTER and you will likely notice:
1. A change in premium. This may reflect an increase from the 2025 premium for the same plan.
2. Change in formulary. This means that the plan may be reducing the number prescriptions it covers for 2026.
3. Pharmacy network changes. These alignments change annually, and it is always good to know that your pharmacy and your plan will work together. Mail-order pharmacy service is also available with every Part D plan and may be the most convenient option for some seniors.
4. Review of the Medicare Prescription Payment Program (M3P) introduced in 2025 that allows members to spread out their prescription expenditures for high-ticket items over the entire policy year. The maximum limit for prescriptions that was introduced in 2025 continues, and in 2026 Medicare enrollees will pay no more than $2,100 during the calendar year for all prescriptions.
There will also be a notice of the ten prescriptions with negotiated prices which include name brands like Eliquis, Enbrel, Entresto, Farxiga, Fiasp, Imbruvica, Januavia, Jardiance, Stelara and Xarelto. However, even with the 38-76% discounts on these prescriptions, the prices remain high, and the drug may not be covered by your plan. It’s that time of year: Cornhuskers and ANOCs. Watch for both this month and get ready to review, or help the seniors in your life review, the Annual Notice of Change for stand-alone Part D coverage or Part D coverage combined with a Medicare Advantage plan. Find a licensed insurance agent locally to help, contact the SHIP office, or DIY at Medicare.gov. The licensed agents at On Point Insurance Agency are here to help.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - I think the biggest challenge in this industry is juggling parenthood and schedule changes while simultaneously trying to keep my clients on their regular appointment times.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- Hands down my biggest achievement in my career is opening my own salon! But a close second is taking the chance and opening the Halo Head Spa.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - Oh. that’s a good one! I was the lead singer of a band here in Lincoln for one month! But they decided I sounded “too country." It was so much fun!

Dave Queen is the Owner at Camp A Way.
Tell us a little about your business. - At Camp A Way, our mission is simple: provide the very best outdoor hospitality experience in the area. Whether you’re pitching a tent, parking your RV or enjoying a little luxury in one of our glamping units, we have something for everyone. We’ve built an environment that’s welcoming for families, full of amenities that keep guests smiling — from our swimming pool to high-speed Wi-Fi, fun zones and comfortable lodging options. We’re here to make sure your time outdoors feels both adventurous and relaxing.
How did you get started in the business? - My wife Jolene and I purchased Camp A Way in 1995. Back then, it was a tired park that needed a lot of love. Over the years, we’ve poured ourselves into bringing it back to life, and we’ve been blessed to see it grow into a vibrant, successful destination. The outdoor hospitality industry has changed considerably since then. Years ago electricity and a swimming pool were considered enough. Now guests expect streaming-capable Wi-Fi, activities for all ages, food service and a variety of lodging options.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - I’m an optimistic person, so I tend to see challenges as opportunities. Every business faces obstacles, but I’ve learned that there’s almost always a way to pivot in a better direction. A challenge isn’t a dead end — it’s a chance to innovate.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? - One of the most rewarding parts of running Camp A Way has been the chance to invest in young people. Over the years, we’ve hired more than 100 college and high school students. It’s incredibly meaningful when they stop by years later to say hello and share the amazing things they’ve accomplished. Knowing that we had even a small role in shaping their work ethic and confidence is something I’m very proud of.
Tell us a little about your family. - Jolene and I have been married for 49 years. We have one son, Chris, who worked alongside us for 25 years. We’re blessed with a wonderful daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, and we’ve spent many evenings cheering them on at ball games this past year.
Who inspires you? - I belong to a group of campground owners. We share financials, projects, and challenges, and we hold each other accountable. It’s a no-excuses group — and they keep me sharp and inspired to always improve.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Be a Blessing. I want to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of others

Christine Nelson SALT CREEK SENIOR LIVING
Christine Nelson is the lifestyle director for Salt Creek Senior Living.
Tell us a little about your business. - I’m the Lifestyle Director for Salt Creek Senior Living. It’s a beautiful new senior community supporting independent living, assisted living and memory care. With a gorgeous, wrap-around view of the natural beauty of Salt Creek, these apartments are perfect for people who enjoy modern décor and fantastic food, as well as family games and puzzles. Especially Wordle! We are really good at playing Wordle as a group and enjoy the game nearly every day! Salt Creek is a part of the Dial Senior Living Family.
How did you get started in the business? - My very first job in high school was working as an aide in a senior living community. I enjoyed roles in marketing and advertising after college, but I always volunteered in senior living. Eventually, I started working in senior living full time, because it truly is what I love to do most!
Tell us about your family. - My husband, Mark, works for Continental. We have two daughters, Laurel and Rachel. Laurel works in human resources on the east coast and Rachel works in project management here in Lincoln. As of May, all of us are now graduates of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. So we are a family of Huskers, which I LOVE! GO BIG RED!
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - We are a pickleball family. Mark is really good. My play is more “whimsicalbut-trying-really-hard” style. We might play pickleball together as a family or enjoy a dinner out with friends. In a perfect world, we’d play pickleball, enjoy dinner together and then play cards. We love Pitch, Swoop and Five Crowns.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that people don’t know? - I really enjoy binge-watching television shows with takeout food with friends and family. That’s not really interesting by itself, but I find myself loving to learn facts about entertainment shows and then sharing them with my good friends. I think many people find it unique that I know a lot of unusual or obscure facts and trivia about all sorts of shows.
What is your favorite TV show? - So many! I love “The Diplomat” and “The Last of Us.” But I am also crazy for anything “Charlie’s Angels” from any era or a spicy murder mystery.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - My local favorites are Pho and the Paris Banh Mi Cafe! But if a restaurant does takeout, I’m a big fan already.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - The best way to connect with me is to call me at (531) 278-8965.
David Lavelle WESTERN NATIONAL BANK
David Lavelle serves as Vice President and Commercial/Agricultural Loan Officer at Western National Bank
Tell us a little about your business. - Founded in 2009 by two founding families, Western National Bank operates 11 branches across Nebraska and Kansas. The bank offers a comprehensive range of financial services, to both individuals and businesses. For businesses and farmers, the bank provides specialized commercial and agricultural loans, lines of credit, equipment financing and real estate loans.
How did you get started in the business? - My parents were among the founding members of Western National Bank, and I always knew that I would join the “family business.” However, I wanted to gain experience outside of banking. Right after college, I started in insurance and healthcare. I gained insights across industries, but I also realized my strengths, integrity, honesty, attention to detail, empathy and strong communication, were perfect for banking.
Tell us a little about your family. - I married my high school sweetheart, Madison, and together we’re raising four amazing kids—three boys: Drake (7), Chase (5), and Miles (3), and our newest addition, a baby girl named Logan, born in July.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Our son Chase became seriously ill at just four months old and was diagnosed with kidney failure, requiring numerous rounds of dialysis. We spent a month at Children’s Hospital in Omaha—one of the most difficult times Madison and I have ever faced. During that time, we leaned heavily on our parents and close friends, and it truly solidified just how important those relationships are in our lives.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On a day off, I’d start by grabbing donuts for the kids before dropping them off at their grandparents for a fun morning. Then I’d sneak in a quick round of golf with Madison, pick the kids up, and head to the pool. After swimming, I’d fire up the grill for dinner and end the day with a movie and—hopefully—an easy bedtime!
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - Growing up, every night before bed, my mom and dad would tuck my brother and me in and remind us of “the rules”: Listen, tell the truth, be nice and treat others the way you want to be treated. Those simple rules stuck with me—they became part of who I am.
Which talent would you most like to have? - If I could pick any talent to have for life, I’d love to be able to sing. My brother-in-law travels all over performing on cruise ships, and I can’t help but envy how comfortable he is singing.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - My wife, Madison, and I have partnered with the Nebraska Community Blood Bank to host a blood drive in honor of Chase. “Chase’s Drive to Survive” has received nearly 200 pints of donated blood—an overwhelming reminder of the impact generous donors can have. We’re proud to be hosting our third blood drive on October 7, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at either: Western National Bank or Hudl.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? - For any special occasion, my go-to restaurant is The Venue. You just can’t beat their Surf & Turf—it’s hands down my favorite on the menu!
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - My email is david@mywnb.com

Schwisow Construction is proud to celebrate the 15-year work anniversary of Mike Berry, a dedicated project manager whose career has been defined by integrity, collaboration and a deep commitment to building lasting relationships within the construction industry.
“I had interned with another company while I was in college, and the owner of that company had an established relationship with Doug Blum,” Mike recalls. “Schwisow was looking to grow its project management team, and I was ready to take on a fulltime role in commercial construction. That connection opened the door.”
He began his journey as an entry-level project manager, learning the ropes from Doug and Randy on small-scale jobs. Over time, his role grew alongside the company, and his ability to lead larger, more complex projects expanded.
Some of his favorite projects include the PCE Executive Offices and Alpha Brewing Operations, both of which stood out for their visual appeal and strong collaboration.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to take a client’s napkin sketch and help bring it to life. Seeing a project come to fruition, whether it’s a small remodel or a large facility, is what I’m most proud of,” Mike said. “There’s an understanding that the job needs to get done, but also that family is the most important part of our lives. We operate as a connected unit, sharing responsibilities and supporting one another. Our low turnover says a lot about how much we value our people.”
Schwisow Construction celebrates Mike Berry on this meaningful milestone and thanks him for 15 years of dedication, leadership and teamwork. For more information, visit schwisow.com.

Thirty hospitals in Nebraska are among the 4,800 nationwide that participate in the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® initiative to improve outcomes for Americans who experience heart disease or stroke.
Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. These health crises require swift and proven treatment to ensure the best outcomes for patients. The American Heart Association, celebrating 100 years of work to advance health and hope, sets the standards for high-quality, science-based care and access that all patients deserve.
Michelle Bolles, senior vice president of quality outcomes, research and analytics, said that someone in America has a stroke or heart attack every 40 seconds.
“High-quality care should be accessible to all, and sites awarded through the ‘Get With The Guidelines’ program help work toward our shared vision of health and hope for everyone, everywhere,” Bolles said.
Each year, the American Heart Association recognizes hospitals across the country for consistently following up-to-date, researchbased guidelines to ensure all patients have access to lifesaving care. In Nebraska, 30 hospitals were recognized in the following cities: Bellevue, Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, Grand Island, Columbus, Cozad, Crete, Norfolk, North Platte, Gothenburg, Fairbury, Broken Bow, Kimball, Blair, Hastings, Fremont, Auburn, Tecumseh, Wayne, Scottsbluff and Hebron.

Goodwill celebrated another garage sale season by hosting its 13th annual Neighborhood Challenge. With seven participating associations, Goodwill collected a total of 10,200 pounds of donations.
People’s City Mission is excited to announce the overwhelming success of its annual Back to School Bash, held August 8, 2025. Thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers, the event equipped hundreds of local children with the tools they need to start the school year with confidence. This year, the Mission received an incredible 808 backpacks filled with essential school supplies. In addition, families benefitted from thousands of donated items, including more than 1,800 pencils, 920 notebooks, 980 folders, and hundreds of crayons, markers, glue sticks, and even brand-new shoes. The Back to School Bash served children both at the Mission’s Help Center and at the family shelter, ensuring that students across Lincoln had access to the resources needed for a successful school year. As an added blessing, children currently staying at the shelter were treated to free haircuts, helping 75 young students head into the classroom with renewed confidence and pride.
“Because of the compassion of our community, hundreds of children will step into the classroom ready to learn,” said Pastor Tom. For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities, visit PCMLincoln. org or contact Josh Burkey, Volunteer Services Director, at JBurkey@ PCMLincoln.org or (402) 475-1303.

In 2024, Goodwill served more than 5,700 individuals in southeast Nebraska through a variety of employment services and programs. The organization also recycles many unsellable donations, diverting over 3.3 million pounds of materials from the local landfill last year.

Did you know that 11,000 Nebraskans are diagnosed with cancer each year, and 1 in 4 cancer patients will not recover because they cannot afford the care they need? The Heartland Cancer Foundation (HCF) believes no cancer patient should fall behind on treatment because they struggle to afford their everyday expenses.
This is an issue that needs to be addressed in our community. Fortunately, there are several types of gifts that support local cancer patients who are struggling financially while also creating a more sustainable future for the foundation and its long-term impact.Through legacy giving, individuals have the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the lives of those battling cancer by including the foundation in their estate planning. These legacy gifts help ensure that future generations of cancer patients receive the much-needed aid they deserve.
Recurring giving also plays a pivotal role, as it creates a steady and dependable source of funding for the foundation’s ongoing efforts, such as planning and executing long-term programs and events, awareness and outreach, and offering extended aid to patients during their entire treatment journey. Finally, setting up a donoradvised fund offers numerous advantages. It simplifies the giving process, consolidates multiple charitable donations into a single fund, offers flexibility in timing charitable donations, and donors can take an immediate tax deduction. Fresh Start, a transitional shelter dedicated to empowering women experiencing homelessness, has made history by becoming the first organization in the state of Nebraska to receive accreditation from the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR). This groundbreaking achievement marks a major milestone not only for Fresh Start, but for the entire state.
NARR accreditation is a nationally recognized standard of excellence in recovery housing. It demonstrates that a program offers safe, supportive environments grounded in evidence-based practices and guided by the core principles of peer support, resident empowerment and long-term recovery success.
For over 30 years, Fresh Start has remained committed to walking alongside women as they rebuild their lives. “This accreditation validates the work we’ve been doing for decades, meeting women where they are, providing structure and support, and believing in their capacity for change,” said Monica Zinke, executive director of Fresh Start.
To earn the accreditation, Fresh Start underwent a rigorous evaluation process, assessing its policies, programming, facility operations and outcomes. The review emphasized the organization’s dedication to resident safety, rights, community involvement and individualized recovery pathways. While recovery from substance abuse is the most common, the term “recovery” is applied to other categories, such as mental health.
For residents, the recognition is deeply meaningful. “Fresh Start gave me a second chance and a place to grow,” said one resident. “Knowing that it meets national standards makes me even more proud to be part of this community.”

Vision Maker Media’s (VMM) mission is empowering and engaging Native people to share stories while envisioning a world changed and healed by understanding Native stories and the public conversations they generate. VMM educational programs include the Native American Film Series and iNative Shorts for Kids, which sparks dialogue and deepens awareness of Native life and culture.
On September 8, the Native American Film Series at The Ross Theater will feature “Across the Creek” and “Finding Refuge.” Both films touch on the importance of cultural identity. “Across the Creek” is a conversation between the elder and younger generations about reclaiming their stories and culture. By looking at traditional family structure, spirituality, language and values, they hope to build a vision for the future. “Finding Refuge” shows how one woman’ s efforts to preserve her heritage inspires a community’s renewal of cultural pride. For free tickets, visit https://theross.org/.
VMM’s iNative Shorts for Kids is a series on VMM’s YouTube channel, featuring short, curated videos from VMM’s extensive film archive. The first episodes in September conclude the series on the theme, “Leaders of Tomorrow.” Each episode during this theme has highlighted the potential of young people to make a difference in Native American communities. The second set of episodes released in September begin to examine the importance of identity by focusing on people who are rediscovering the significance of their culture.

As summer fades into fall, Child Evangelism Fellowship of Nebraska (CEF) is gearing up to launch another impactful season of Good News Clubs in elementary schools across the state—including right here in Lincoln.
What’s a Good News Club?
It’s more than just an after-school program. Good News Clubs are high-energy, Christ-centered clubs held in elementary schools at the end of the school day. Each week, kids gather in a safe and welcoming environment to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ through:
• Bible lessons and memory verses
• Missionary stories that inspire and encourage
• Fun songs with meaningful messages
• Snacks and drinks to keep kids energized and engaged
• All presented in a fast-paced, kid-friendly format
Good News Clubs are led by trained volunteers and local church partners, and they’re completely free to attend.
“Our goal is simple,” says Jonathan Musgrave, State Director for CEF Nebraska. “We want to reach boys and girls with the Good News of Jesus Christ in a way that’s engaging, joyful, and age-appropriate. These clubs are changing lives every week, and we’re excited for what God has in store this fall.”
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, pastor, or potential volunteer, CEF Nebraska would love to connect with you. To find a club near you or learn how to start one in your area, call 402-484-7877, email jonathan@cefnebraska.org or visit cefnebraska.org
Incredible moms from Moms Club of Lincoln donated diapers to the Nebraska Diaper Bank to support families in their community.
Their kindness highlights a pressing need that the Nebraska Diaper Bank is working hard to address. The nonprofit is calling on local businesses, organizations and community groups to join the effort to fill a critical shortage of larger-sized diapers for families across Nebraska.
Each month, Nebraska Diaper Bank distributes 300,000 diapers to more than 5,000 children. However, sizes 5 and 6 remain the most requested and the hardest to keep in stock, as children typically stay in these sizes longer, creating ongoing demand.
“We’re running low, and we need the community’s help,” said Anna Lehotyak, development director. “When local workplaces and organizations host drives, it ensures that every baby gets the right size diaper, each and every month.”
Because diapers aren’t covered by federal assistance programs like SNAP or WIC, many families struggle to afford enough. Without access to the right size diapers, children face health risks, missed childcare opportunities and increased stress on their families.
“If your business is looking for a meaningful way to give back, this is it,” Lehotyak added. “A small effort can make a big difference for families in need.” To get started or make a donation, visit www. nebraskadiaperbank.org.
After a record-breaking first year, raising $87,157.62 to support maternal and infant healthcare in Malawi, Africa, local business leaders are bringing back Chips for Change for its second year — and aiming even higher.
On January 24, 2026, from 5:30 to 10 p.m., the South Lincoln Morrow Collision Center will transform into a lively casino night for a cause, hosted by Renee Sobotka (True North Technologies) and Sara Mach (SERVPRO). The evening will feature casino gaming tables, dinner, and live and silent auctions, all to benefit Child Legacy International (CLI).
Last year’s event helped fund CLI’s neonatal center, providing lifesaving care for complicated deliveries. This year, the goal is to establish a pediatric unit equipped to treat a wide range of illnesses affecting Malawian children, most notably malaria. For the past nine years, CLI has been delivering babies in one of the most underserved regions in the world, dramatically reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. Now, they’re taking the next step: creating a hospital space dedicated to caring for those same children as they grow and face new health challenges.
“This community came together in such an incredible way last year,” said Renee Sobotka, event co-host. “We saw firsthand how the money raised can change and save lives. This year, we’re inviting even more people and businesses to join us in building a healthier future for Malawi’s children.”
The organizers are currently seeking corporate sponsors and auction item donations to help reach the fundraising goal. Businesses and individuals interested in partnering can contact Renee Sobotka at (402) 968-5068 or renee.sobotka@outlook.com.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands (BBBSM) has launched its “60 Men in 60 Days” campaign, an urgent push to recruit 60 male mentors by October 30. The effort comes in response to a growing waitlist of boys in their service area, some waiting over a year and a half for a Big Brother.

“Our one-to-one matches don’t just change lives; they create lasting impact for youth and their families,” says Nichole Turgeon, CEO of BBBSM. “We’re not just matchmakers. We’re your biggest supporters, offering training, supervision, and guidance every step of the way.”
The campaign focuses on BBBSM’s Community-Based Mentoring (CBM) program, which pairs trained adult mentors with youth aged 7–14. Mentors meet with their Little twice a month in the community for meaningful, fun activities. Each match is backed by a dedicated Match Support Specialist.
Mentors are currently being accepted from Lancaster, Douglas, Seward, Sarpy, Cass, Saunders, Washington, Pottawattamie, and Mills counties.

Kids are able to do better when they are not hungry. HopeSpoke knows this about school performance, and the same is true when they attend therapy sessions. For growing and maturing kids, proper nourishment is essential to mental and physical well being. Hunger can lead to increased irritability, difficulty focusing, and can make it harder for children to regulate their emotions and build positive relationships.
Thank you to Lincoln Center Kiwanis for seeing this important need and stepping up for the kids in our community by donating snacks to HopeSpoke’s outpatient program. If they are feeling hungry, kids, adults and families coming to therapy can visit HopeSpoke’s snack cupboard. This small act will help produce better outcomes for everyone and for that, they are grateful. HopeSpoke sees hundreds of clients a year and keeping their snack cupboard full is no small task. If you or your group is interested in donating snacks please reach out to Suzy Thompson or Maggie Montoya at give@hopespoke.org or (402) 475-7666.

At Leadership Harbor, we empower individuals, teams, and organizations to realize their potential with con dence and in uence. We provide coaching, workshops, assessments, and mastermind groups that build relational in uence and self-awareness across personal, professional, and even faith dimensions. From tools like Working Genius and Maxwell DISC, to community-building opportunities like our Speakers Club or mastermind studies, we create a supportive “Harbor” where people can grow and thrive.
We believe what sets us apart is our holistic and relational approach. We don’t just train leaders in skills—we walk alongside people to help them understand who they are, how they’re wired, and how their values shape their leadership. We create a safe, supportive environment (a true “harbor”) where people can take risks, grow in self-awareness, and become con dent in their in uence. Our variety of tools and experiences—from leadership games, to DISC and Working Genius, to spiritual and value-based assessments—means we can meet people where they are and help them apply what they learn in meaningful, lasting ways.
We extend our reach by o ering resources for suicide and bullying prevention, and partial scholarships for personal development. This mission-driven work makes our coaching and training about more than just business growth—it’s about transforming lives and communities.
Our mission is to empower people to realize their potential with con dence and in uence.
We believe that leadership isn’t about titles or positions—leadership is in uence, nothing more and nothing less (John C. Maxwell). That means each of us has the opportunity to lead, to grow, and to positively impact the people around us. Everything we do is rooted in helping people recognize their strengths and limitations, communicate more e ectively, and become leaders in every area of life.
If you are like me, you might be wondering exactly how the City of Lincoln could issue $25 million of bonds to finance the new downtown central library without putting it on the ballot for voters to weigh in on?
I think there’s really two parts to the overall question – the how part and the why part.
As I read the City’s press release on May 15, 2025, I was confused – mostly by the language.
The press release stated: “Because no general obligation bond would be needed, the project would not require a vote by the community.”
That same day, the Lincoln Journal Star reported these are “municipal (improvement) bonds, which don’t require a vote of the people or a separate tax levy to pay off.”
Adding to the confusion, The Journal Star also quoted Mayor Gaylor Baird as saying the bonds will be paid from the existing city budget, without a tax increase. The implied reasoning is that no vote is required if a separate levy isn’t needed.
So, my curiosity - and my background as a CPA/auditor – got the best of me and I pulled up the City’s audited financial statements. Municipal improvement bonds are a form of general obligation bonds and thus are backed by the full faith and credit of the city (in other words… us, the taxpayers).
That led me to Article 40 of the City Charter that governs the City’s authority to issue bonds. Article 40 says all general obligation bonds require voter approval unless they fall under one of three narrow exceptions – none of which apply to the new library. The City Charter makes no mention of “municipal improvement bonds”.
There is also no exception or provision in the City Charter that allows the City Council to bypass voter approval simply because the bonds can be repaid out of the City’s existing budget authority.
After digging further, I found that municipal improvement bonds not governed by the City Charter, but by the State of Nebraska. Presumably, the authority to bypass a public vote lies in a myriad of statutes. Finding the exact statutes could be its own research project and I’m certain the City Attorney and the City Council did that research. So—I quit digging on the HOW question.
But the WHY still concerned me. Over the past decade or so, the city has asked voters to stormwater bond in amounts far smaller than the library bonds. And in May of 2010 the voters were asked to approve $25M in bonds to finance the Pinnacle Bank Arena via the West Haymarket JPA.
It begs the question: why should one $25 million project go to the voters and another bypass them entirely?
There’s also the matter of long-term budget impact. These bonds will be paid from the city’s general fund. If the City’s levy increases before the bonds are repaid, residents could reasonably ask: Would this have happened if voters had been allowed to weigh in on the bond?
It comes back to the age-old adage – just because you CAN do something, doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Projects of this scale deserve more than just legal compliance — they deserve a public vote or, at the very least, a clear, transparent explanation of why one is being denied.

What started as a grassroots initiative to bring fresh, organic groceries to Lincoln has flourished into our city’s sole and most reliable co-op grocery store. Through partnerships with local farms and food vendors, the store has continuously operated with a community-first approach.
The Open Harvest story began in 1971, not in a storefront, but in a garage. A small group of Lincoln families created a buying club to purchase organic food in bulk and share it. This humble, collaborative effort was the seed for something much larger.
Just four years later, their shared vision outgrew the garage, and in 1975, their teamwork blossomed into the first Open Harvest Co-op Grocery Store. Its doors first opened on 27th and Randolph Street. This marked the official beginning of a thriving, community-driven co-op that has continued to serve Lincoln for the last 50 years.
Momentum for the co-op continued to build, leading to another expansion in 1990. Open Harvest moved into its iconic South Street location, an era marked by significant growth and new challenges. National food chains started offering their own natural food selections, which ramped up competition for the co-op. Open Harvest adapted to this by sticking to its mission and introducing exclusive

member deals to keep benefiting the community that helped it grow.
In 2024, Open Harvest embarked on an extraordinary effort, relocating from its beloved South Street home to the vibrant Telegraph District. This was a monumental move that truly reflected the enduring spirit of the co-op.
Bringing this vision to life required immense dedication. The Open Harvest team worked tirelessly, and the store raised an impressive $1.2 million. This significant sum came from a powerful combination of their devoted shoppers and the Lincoln Community Foundation, demonstrating the deep connection between the co-op and the community it serves. For decades, Open Harvest has supported Lincoln in countless ways, and when the co-op needed help, the community rallied to return the favor.
The spirit of the community shows up at the register too. In 2020, Open Harvest launched “The SEED Program,” a simple yet powerful initiative inviting shoppers to round up to the nearest dollar in support of a different local nonprofit each month. This spring, the co-op proudly surpassed $100,000 raised by the program, all thanks to the generosity of its local shoppers. Each month, members of the non-profit organization visit the store for a ceremonial “big check” photo, a tradition they are proud to uphold. It is a moment the staff always looks forward to presenting.
This summer, Open Harvest is thrilled to be celebrating 50 years of serving Lincoln! Since 1975, the co-op has been a cornerstone of the community, and they marked this exciting milestone with a parking lot bash on August 9th.
From humble beginnings in a garage to its vibrant new home in the Telegraph district, Open Harvest has spent the last 50 years committed to the Lincoln community. Through every challenge, they have stayed true to their values and provided the community with high-quality and local food. As Open Harvest looks toward its next 50 years, it continues to be more than just a grocery store. It stands as a testament to what a community can achieve when it comes together.

The summer of 2025 has been a season of significant progress for Lincoln’s business community and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. Together, we have strengthened partnerships, celebrated successes and advanced our mission of enhancing the economic vitality of Lincoln.
Over the past few months, the Lincoln Chamber proudly partnered with the Greater Topeka Partnership to host Lincoln’s first City Swap. This exchange between communities built on the success of last year’s inaugural intercity visit to Boise and further sparked new ideas between two growing communities. We also hosted Nebraska’s Federal Congressional Delegation at our annual Federal Legislative Summit, offering Chamber members and local leaders the unique opportunity to hear directly from elected officials. With a focus on talent development and retention, the summer MyTern program united more interns than ever before, connecting them with resources and experiences that showcase why Lincoln is such a great place to build a career. And, to top it off, the Chamber’s BusinessLNK podcast received national recognition with an award for communications excellence from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.
As we step into the fall season, our attention is now on one of our favorite annual traditions: YP Week, hosted by the Lincoln Young Professionals Group (YPG), a program of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. Taking place October 6–10, YP Week unites hundreds of young professionals for a dynamic lineup of events designed to connect, educate and inspire the young professionals of Lincoln’s business community.
YP Week will begin October 6 with a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Sarah Collins of Collins Collective, who will share more about how young professionals can recharge, reconnect and rediscover the power of positive energy. Throughout the rest of the week, attendees will have the opportunity to network, engage in meaningful discussions and participate in volunteer activities that support the Lincoln community.
One of the highlights of the week, the Young Lincoln Leader Awards (YLLAs), will take place on October 9. The YLLAs recognize seven outstanding individuals and organizations who are making a positive impact in our community. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Young Professional of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Diversity and Inclusion Excellence, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Next Generation Workplace, Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year and Emerging Leader of the Year. To learn more about the Young Lincoln Leader Awards, visit lincolnypg.com/YLLA-Nomination.
Lincoln’s young professionals form a vibrant and growing network, and YP Week is just one way we celebrate and strengthen it. I applaud the members of the Lincoln Young Professionals Group Leadership Council, chaired this year by Courtney Strayer of Bryan Health, for their commitment to creating exceptional programming for Lincoln’s young professionals. With a variety of networking and educational events throughout the year, YPG serves as a powerful platform for building relationships, developing skills and shaping the future of Lincoln’s business community.

What began as a small remodeling company has grown into a trusted name in high-end design-build remodeling for both interior and exterior projects. Willet Construction was built on a foundation of craftsmanship, customer satisfaction, and a commitment to doing things the right way. This year marks 30 years of satis ed customers.
Willet Construction was founded in 1995 by Rick and Marcia Willet with a clear vision of o ering a top-quality product and delivering it on schedule. The foundational competitive advantage was providing hand-written calendars and sticking to them. This is something rarely heard of in the remodeling industry. Thanks to the trust of satis ed customers, word spread, and the business has grown steadily through referrals and repeat customers.
“If they fell short, I wouldn't hire them for the 2nd and 3rd projects; they do a bang-up job. They always answer my questions and explain things. They have never fallen short of any of my expectations.”
Raoul J.
As demand grew, so did the team. We’ve added a production team, in-house designers, and a sales team to streamline the remodeling process and raise the bar on quality and service. Opening the Willet Home Design Studio in August marked a major turning point. We became a full-service design-build rm capable of guiding clients through every stage of their remodeling journey, from the rst sketches to the nal walk-through.
“I actually have already told several friends about Willet Construction and how happy I am to work with them! From the initial design phase to the nal walk-through, it was obvious that the folks at Willet genuinely listened to, and cared about, the ideas I had for my project. They made it very clear that the process, and my comfort with it, was a top priority. There was never a sense of rushing to the nish line to move onto other projects. Quite the opposite in fact. Willet made every e ort to ensure my complete satisfaction with my addition, and I couldn’t be happier!” Karen C.
This year the company completes a 7-year leadership transition. Jason Willet, who joined the company in 2015, now takes the helm as President of Willet Construction, with Rick jokingly promoting himself to Vice President. Rick remains an important part of the team, ensuring the values he and Marcia instilled remain strong. The focus remains the same: top-quality service, excellent craftsmanship, and an enjoyable remodeling experience.
We couldn’t celebrate 30 years in business without the trust and support of the Lincoln community and surrounding towns. Thank you to every homeowner who invited us into their home, to every client who recommended us to a friend, and to every family who returned to us for their next project.
Our collaborative team provides innovative, project-specific solutions to any challenge they face. Let us help bring your buildings to life.
A city’s growth is most impactful when its economic development is directly tied to the well-being of its residents. As urban areas expand, investing in local businesses, job creation, workforce training, and equitable access to economic opportunities ensures that residents benefit from the city’s progress. When development focuses solely on infrastructure or attracting outside investment without uplifting the existing community, it often leads to displacement and widening income gaps. However, a city that grows with its people—by supporting entrepreneurship, creating inclusive economic policies, and prioritizing affordable living—builds a stronger, more stable economy rooted in shared success.
Back in 1989, the city was only 63 square miles. Now the city has increased 59%, and is now over 100 square miles. The city has built so much since then.
As of July 1, 2024, Lincoln had a whopping 300,619 people living in our lively city. From 2020-2024, the population has increased by almost 9,000 people, and is expected to increase by another 9,000 by 2029. With Lincoln having many college campuses, young adults are entering our city every year to begin the next phase of their lives after graduating from one of the many colleges and universities we have.
With all that being said, there seems to always be big and exciting construction projects, and no, I’m not talking about road construction, even though having the bumpy street next to your neighborhood repaved can be the highlight of some people’s month, making your morning commute quicker and safer. According to NAICS (North American Industry Classification System), there is around 20,000 construction and manufacturing employees in the general Lincoln area who are helping our city grow. In the last fiscal year, the City of Lincoln issued over 32,000 building permits; now while the number of permits is not a perfect 1:1 ratio for each building constructed, it gives residents a clear picture of the massive rate that Lincoln builds at.
Every single construction company, which we roughly have 800 in the Lincoln area alone, are working around the clock to produce buildings, complexes and anything our community needs to grow alongside our growing population. You can thank the amazing construction teams for their involvement for Lincoln’s growing city limits and incredible infrastructure. There are so many current projects happening in Lincoln to make it a better city and a better place to live for every resident here.
Engineered Controls provides smart and affordable systems that help make buildings in Lincoln, and beyond, run more efficiently. These systems act like a building’s “nervous system,” connecting things like heating and cooling (HVAC), lighting, security, and gas detection monitoring so they can all work together smoothly. By automating these systems, building owners can save energy, cut down on utility bills, and create safer, more comfortable spaces. This also makes owning buildings more sustainable as over time, the savings will pile up.
As construction continues to grow in Lincoln, with thousands of building permits issued in the past year, contractors and developers are looking for smarter ways to manage new and existing buildings. That’s where Engineered Controls’ technology comes in. Their WEBs platform is internet-based, which means it can be accessed from any device with a web browser. It allows building owners to monitor and control everything in one place, whether it’s temperature settings, lights, or security systems.
Because the system is flexible and open, builders can choose the best equipment for each job while still keeping everything connected under one easy-to-use platform. For Lincoln’s fast-growing commercial and residential developments, this kind of smart building technology can be a big step toward reducing long-term costs and boosting property value.
From grading and drainage to utility coordination and regulatory approvals, site development planning plays a critical role in ensuring that building projects across the city proceed smoothly, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with local regulations.
As Lincoln continues to grow, REGA Engineering Group has positioned itself as a trusted partner in transforming raw land into ready-tobuild property. Through comprehensive site development services, REGA supports builders and developers in setting a strong foundation for construction success. Site development planning is the process of preparing a property for construction. It involves assessing the physical, environmental, and regulatory aspects of a site, and designing the critical infrastructure required, such as grading,
stormwater management, utilities, access roads, and parking. With detailed surveys and engineering solutions, REGA helps local developers keep projects on time and on budget.
In Lincoln, REGA’s civil engineers work closely with contractors, architects, and local officials to navigate the city’s unique topography and regulatory landscape, ensuring that every project begins on solid ground.
Site development isn’t just about enabling construction—it’s about creating sustainable, safe environments. In Lincoln, this means planning for:
• Safe and accessible entrances and roadways
• Efficient utility layouts for water, sewer, electric, and gas
• Proper grading and drainage to handle Nebraska’s seasonal weather
• Parking and pedestrian infrastructure that meets ADA and city design standards
REGA takes a holistic approach to site functionality, ensuring longterm performance and resilience.
With over 20 years of experience, REGA Engineering Group continues to serve Lincoln and the greater Midwest with responsive service, technical expertise, and deep local knowledge. From public infrastructure to private development, REGA’s site development planning helps ensure that Lincoln’s growth is not only possible—but built to last.

Cheever Construction has completed 879 jobs overall all across Lincoln and in the past few years has built the Lincoln Pediatric Group building, Lincoln Public Schools – Northwest & Standing Bear Athletic Complex and the Nebraska Council of School Administrators.
Supporting the mission of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA), this new two-story office building, located just steps from the Nebraska State Capitol not only reflects a commitment to education but also showcases the kind of thoughtful, communityfocused construction taking place across Lincoln.
“This is an exciting time for NCSA members and for our staff,” said Executive Director Mike Dulaney. “We are thrilled to share the building with school leaders from across the state, and we know that the new office space will enhance professional development for NCSA members for decades to come.”
The Lincoln Pediatric Group building was completed in January of 2024 to provide office space, treatment areas and clinic space for staff and patients. The 29,000-square-foot pediatric medical office is located at the entrance to Black Forest Estates, and featured inside the facility is:
• 44 exam rooms

• Dedicated spaces for patient treatment and consultation
Beyond the walls, the site includes on-site parking, sustainable landscaping, and environmental features such as stormwater management systems and wetland mitigation, ensuring both functionality and long-term environmental responsibility.
Spanning both Northwest High School and Standing Bear High School, the 12-month project of the Lincoln Public Schools Athletic Complex included the construction of new fields, courts, stadium seating, and support facilities to better accommodate practice and competition close to home.
At Northwest High School, Cheever delivered a new football stadium with seating for 2,800 spectators, a full track and field, and a baseball field. The stadium is equipped with a modern press box and concessions building, offering a professional-grade experience for both athletes and fans. This facility will be shared across the district to host a wide variety of events.
Over at Standing Bear High School, the team oversaw construction of four soccer fields, two softball fields, and a six-court tennis complex. The centerpiece of the soccer facilities includes a main field with stadium seating for up to 1,000 spectators, bringing a tournamentready atmosphere to high school athletics.
Years of planning and vision have come to life through Cheever’s expertise in delivering high-quality construction projects that serve the public good. As the crisp air of fall rolls in and the trees trade their summer greens for fiery reds and golds, it’s easy to think your yard is getting ready for a long nap—but fall is actually one of the most important seasons for landscaping. Unlike the high-maintenance demands of summer, fall gives you a golden opportunity to set your landscape up for long-term success with a lot less sweat. Trees and shrubs, for instance, are still actively growing beneath the soil even as their leaves drop. This makes fall the ideal time to plant new ones, giving roots plenty of time to establish before the ground freezes. It’s also prime time for pruning—cutting back dead or damaged branches not only improves the health of trees and shrubs, it also helps prevent breakage from heavy snow or ice in winter. Lawns benefit from fall care too. Core aeration and overseeding in early fall can help rejuvenate tired grass after a scorching summer, while applying a slow-release fertilizer gives your lawn the nutrients it needs to green up strong in spring. And don’t stop watering! Even though temperatures are cooler and rain may be more frequent, trees and shrubs still need consistent moisture to stay healthy. Many people turn off irrigation systems too soon; a deep watering once a week (until the ground freezes) can make all the difference. For those with decks or patios, fall is the perfect time to do a little maintenance—clean off debris, seal wood surfaces, and check for loose boards before snow and ice arrive. A wellcared-for deck will survive winter much better and be ready for action come spring. Even your garden beds deserve a little fall love: remove spent annuals, mulch your perennials to insulate roots, and consider planting cover crops in veggie plots to boost soil health. While the flashy colors of fall steal the spotlight, what’s happening at ground level is just as important. Fall landscaping is less about instant gratification and more about smart, strategic care that pays off later.
As fall arrives in Lincoln, it’s the perfect time for homeowners to rethink and upgrade their outdoor spaces. While gardening activities slow down, hardscaping projects and tree planting take center stage, especially with the help of experts like Willet Construction Specializing in custom outdoor living areas, Willet transforms ordinary backyards into beautiful, functional retreats designed for year-round use.
Unlike traditional landscapers, Willet focuses on structural elements such as decks, pergolas, covered patios, and outdoor kitchens. Their projects blend style with durability and are designed for both comfort and functionality. Outdoor kitchens, in particular, have grown in popularity from basic grilling stations to full-scale culinary setups with plumbing, lighting, refrigeration, and storage. Covered patios offer shelter from the elements, while multi-level decks provide flexible spaces for entertaining and relaxing.
Fall also presents unique construction challenges, especially with tasks like pouring concrete before the first freeze. Willet Construction prioritizes scheduling around weather to ensure timely project completion. To avoid delays, they recommend starting the planning
process 4 to 6 months in advance. This timeframe allows for necessary permits, design development, and coordination with subcontractors. Their use of advanced design tools, such as sun and shade simulations, helps tailor each structure to a property’s natural features, maximizing comfort throughout the seasons.
Safety and code compliance are also critical components of Willet’s approach. They emphasize the importance of calling 811 before digging and ensuring all necessary permits are obtained. Their team manages the entire process from design and site evaluation to installation and final inspection, providing peace of mind and highquality results.
Whether it’s hosting a barbecue, enjoying autumn leaves, or spending quality time with family, a well-designed outdoor space adds lasting value. Willet’s collaborative approach ensures that each project reflects the homeowner’s lifestyle and vision. From the smallest detail to major structural decisions, they combine craftsmanship, planning, and client-focused service.
For those considering a new outdoor kitchen, deck, or pergola, fall is an ideal time to begin. With expert guidance and early planning, homeowners can create spaces that are ready for spring and enjoyable year-round.
Luxury Landscape focuses on both plant health and outdoor living design. Their fall services include removing leaves and debris, pruning, protecting root systems with mulch, and winterizing water features. These proactive steps prevent disease, pest issues, and freeze damage. Owner Jackie Svoboda emphasizes the importance of continued plant care, especially watering evergreens until the ground freezes and even during mild winter days. “Education is key,” she notes, helping homeowners understand when to prune, mulch, and prepare plants for the winter.
Missteps like skipping mulch or pruning too early can compromise plant health and spring blooms. That’s why Luxury Landscape emphasizes
homeowner guidance, offering personalized advice to ensure each yard is prepped properly. Their use of native plants and sustainable practices, such as leaving some leaves in garden beds for beneficial insects, also supports environmental health while maintaining visual interest through winter.
In addition to seasonal maintenance, Luxury Landscape is known for designing and installing luxurious outdoor living spaces. From patios and pergolas to fire pits, kitchens, and water features, each project is tailored to the homeowner’s style and needs. Their use of succession planting ensures year-round color and visual appeal, while thoughtful color choices help complement home exteriors.
Fall colors are a major trend for 2025, and Luxury Landscape incorporates vibrant plants like Burning Bush, Asters, Garden Mums, and ornamental grasses to keep landscapes lively even as temperatures cool. Their designs not only focus on aesthetics but also on ecological function, attracting pollinators and supporting wildlife.
Timing is crucial, and Jackie recommends booking fall services in summer to avoid delays and ensure landscapes are winter-ready. Transparent communication and careful planning help homeowners feel confident.
Ultimately, Luxury Landscape combines creativity, craftsmanship, and education to help Lincoln homeowners maintain and elevate their outdoor spaces. Whether its fall cleanups or a full landscape transformation, their commitment to beauty, function, and seasonal readiness ensures yards are both stunning and sustainable, now and in the seasons ahead.
Founded in 2002 by Lincoln native Lee Schumacher, TDK Lawn Care, Inc. which stands for Timely, Dedicated, and Knowledgeable, has built a reputation for providing meticulous, year-round lawn maintenance. Over the years, the company has become a trusted name for both residential and commercial clients who value dependable service and beautiful results.
Operating from its headquarters on Van Dorn Street, TDK offers a full suite of services designed to keep lawns in peak condition throughout the year. Their offerings include weekly mowing, customized fertilizing, aeration, over-seeding, seasonal yard cleanups, and reliable snow removal in the winter.
One of the hallmarks of TDK’s approach is its seasonally structured fertilization program. Each treatment is tailored to the needs of the lawn during that specific time of year, ranging from crabgrass control in the spring and summer to grub prevention, weed-and-feed treatments, and essential winterizer applications in the fall. Their aeration services, recommended once or twice annually, are particularly important in Nebraska’s clay-rich soils, helping to relieve compaction and improve root growth. In addition, over-seeding with tall fescue ensures lawns remain lush, dense, and drought-resistant.
In a June 2025 feature by Strictly Business Magazine, TDK was highlighted for its commitment to customer relationships and hands-on leadership. Schumacher and his team pride themselves on showing up on time, doing the job right, and treating every lawn with the same care as their own.

Old Cheney Rehabilitation is a standalone short-term rehabilitation facility. They have skilled nursing services 24 hours a day. They also provide physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy five times a week to assist their patients in reaching their full potential and return home safely. Their
patients are provided with a large handicapped private suite with an attached private bathroom to recover and strengthen in style and comfort. Their skilled therapy services and the home-style cooking set them apart from other rehabilitation facilities. More individuals select non-traditional Medicare plans, such as advantage plans. In short, these plans limit the amount of time you can spend receiving post-hospital care, such as rehabilitation centers. Depending on the injury or illness, sometimes an individual would benefit from receiving more therapy to get them back to baseline, but the patient’s insurance limits what they can do. At Old Cheney Rehabilitation, they put the Lincoln community and partnership with others as a priority. It takes all of them working in different capacities to ensure that the seniors in the community are having their needs met safely. Seeing people come to Old Cheney unable to care for themselves, assisting them through their illness and seeing their excitement on discharge day as they get to return home is why the team continues to put their all into others.

Their services include personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation and specialized dementia and Alzheimer’s care. They serve individuals who want to remain in their own homes but need assistance to maintain independence and quality of life. Each care plan is tailored to honor clients’ routines, preferences and dignity. Their mission is to help seniors age in place—surrounded by the comfort and familiarity of home. Their approach centers on one-on-one attention in the environment where clients feel most secure. Families often share how much they value Visiting Angels’ reliability, clear communication and the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved one is receiving compassionate care. For them, care goes beyond meeting basic needs—it’s about bringing joy, companionship and respect to every interaction. Whether it’s sharing a laugh over morning coffee, helping someone attend a grandchild’s wedding or simply being there to listen, their caregivers create moments of comfort and connection both big and small. They also believe in giving back. From hosting caregiver appreciation events to volunteering at senior resource fairs, they stay connected beyond the homes they serve. Recently, one of their caregivers helped a client fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting her childhood hometown. The trip took careful planning and coordination, but the smile on her face—and the stories she shared afterward— reminded everyone exactly why they do this work. It’s moments like these, when they go beyond basic care to create lasting memories, that are the true heart of Visiting Angels.

We have grown to over 200 members in our first 2 years in business and we are looking for quality professionals to join our network and help us expand into other cities.
Join us in shaping a new era of networking in Nebraska!
